Jesus is my Valentine

During second hour on Sunday, February 19, the Koinonia class joined the K-2 Chapel Time children for a Valentine's Day Party. The theme was "Jesus is my Valentine" based on I John 4: 9-11:

"This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another."

During the celebration of God's love, the young partnered with the old to do a variety of activities together. They exchanged secret handshakes, sang songs, wrote poems and ate treats. They talked with each other about spiritual things:

  • What gifts has God given you?

  • What superpower would you like to have?

  • What godly wisdom do you have for me?

  • When is your favorite time to pray?

  • Please recite a memory verse.

  • When did you decide to follow Jesus?

  • Tell how God has shown you his love.

It was delightful for the Koinonia class to interact and make connections with the children. While there, they were able to see the learning that takes place during K-2 Chapel Time. Many Koinonia members commented about having fun and wanting to join in again. As Linda Christiansen was saying goodbye she said, “I now know how to better pray for the children.” She also encouraged that the Valentine Party should be a yearly event.

It was wonderful to see the children laugh, talk with the older generation and genuinely feel loved. The day was summed up by our theme verse:

“Since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another” (I John 4:11).

Praise God for the love that he shares through his son Jesus!

Look out for secret handshakes in the hallways--new friendships can begin at any age!
